Pesticide Plugs (PA6) & Stem Injectors (PA6)

This one-day LANTRA Level 2 Award course provides practical training and integrated assessment for those required to apply pesticides using plug systems or stem injection techniques.

Description

LANTRA logoTargeted pesticide application requires precision, discipline, and a clear understanding of legal and environmental responsibility.

This one-day LANTRA Level 2 Award course provides practical training and integrated assessment for those required to apply pesticides using plug systems or stem injection techniques. It is designed for operators who are already qualified in pesticide foundation principles (PA1) and need to extend their competence to these specialist application methods.

Course overview

Pesticide plug application and stem injection are highly targeted methods used to control unwanted trees, shrubs, and invasive species while minimising impact on surrounding vegetation and the wider environment. When applied correctly, they offer effective control with reduced spray drift and environmental exposure. When used incorrectly, they carry significant risks to operators, non‑target species, and compliance with legislation.

This course develops safe, competent use of pesticide plugs and stem injectors through a structured programme combining legislation, risk assessment, and hands‑on practical application. Delegates learn how to select suitable techniques, prepare equipment and materials, and apply treatments accurately and responsibly in line with product labels and current best practice.

Training focuses on understanding plant physiology relevant to treatment, correct dosing and placement, operator safety, and environmental protection measures. Integrated assessment is carried out under practical conditions. Successful completion leads to the LANTRA Level 2 Award (PA6) for pesticide plugs and stem injection, formally recognising operator competence.

Key benefits

  • Apply pesticides accurately using plug and stem injection methods
  • Reduce environmental risk through targeted, controlled application
  • Work safely and legally in compliance with pesticide legislation
