Last week we ran our Tractor Operation and Maintenance Module as part of our Grounds and Estates Upskilling Course. This module forms part of a wider nine-module programme running from September to December, with a total of 99 hours of hands-on learning across skills such as:
Ecology Awareness
Technical Tractor driving and use
Chainsaw Maintenance & Crosscutting
Technical Trailer and Towing
Safe use of brushcutter and trimmer
Pedestrian and Rideon Mowers
Safe use of pesticides (incl test)
Safe application of pesticides using a handheld applicator + near water (+ assessment)
Chainsaw, Felling and Processing Trees up to 380mm
In this particular module participants gain the essential skills to:
🚜 Understand legal and safety requirements for tractor operation
🛠️ Carry out pre-start checks and routine maintenance
⚙️ Safely attach and operate tractor-mounted implements and PTO shafts
🌍 Apply environmental awareness and risk assessments in daily operations
The course combines classroom-based learning with supervised outdoor practice, giving participants the confidence to operate safely, efficiently, and responsibly. Training is delivered by LANTRA-approved instructors and independent assessors to ensure the highest standards.
