Planting more trees has become increasingly important in the face of climate change and there is now a greater demand for people to plant these trees. This one-day course has been designed to build an awareness of the basic principles of tree planting and aftercare.
Who should attend?
This course is aimed at anyone employed, considering employment or interested in working outdoors.
Aims of the course
This is for anyone interested in learning about effective tree planting and aftercare.
This might include those currently employed in the industry who are considering employment in the industry, conservation volunteers, or people with an interest in planting and establishing woodlands and trees.
The one-day course is 9-4 pm.
What will you learn?
By the end of the course, delegates will:
Understand the importance of trees in the broader environment; Be familiar with the essential physiological function of trees and factors affecting their growth; Understand the reasons for planting trees, various planting techniques and the right time to grow; Be aware of the importance of site preparation, using the right equipment, tree handling and storage; Understand how to protect newly planted trees against potential pests; Understand the importance of aftercare for freshly planted trees and the various techniques for doing so; Understand the requirement to have the correct certification to undertake specific tasks, such as chemical spraying; Understand the importance of biosecurity when working with trees.
All learners will explore and understand:
- the importance of trees in the wider environment

All delegates will be issued with a workbook, and certificate of attendance upon completion of this Tree Planting & Aftercare Course.
In the first part of the day, we will explore the importance of trees and the different settings in which they are planted and managed. This will include understanding methods to plant that ensure successful establishment.
The second part of the day will be a practical session. Following a safety induction, all learners will be able to put into practice what they have learnt in the morning.

It is rich in history and woodland diversity, making it the perfect place to study and practice tree planting and aftercare in the context of a woodland management plan.
